Medical Surveillance
An Employer has the moral duty to send employees for these medical assessments and to have a Medical/Health surveillance program in place. Medical assessments are done to verify if PPE use is correct and suitable and also if maintenance of equipment is done regularly, e.g. Spray booths extraction mechanisms are working.
Medicals are only to be done by a qualified and registered Occupational Health Practitioner.
A Department of Labor Inspector asks for these medical records to ensure that the Employer complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Medical records are to be kept for 40 years, a copy should be given to the employee and copy should be kept with the HR Department.
Medical assessments can be done on-site, and each assessment normally takes 20 minutes. A full medical report are sent to the employer when completed.

Meeka OHS Consulting with consent from the Employee and Employer, to discuss any urgent medical problems that was unknown to the Employee and assist with guidance on how to improve their medical condition(s).
